The Axe Vale
& District Conservation Society
was
formed c.1970 and was 'dedicated to the protection of
wildlife and the
environment in
their area’. Its aims included 'securing the representation, protection, development and improvement of features of beauty or of historic or public interest' in the Axe Vale and surrounding areas.
Since 1996 the society has run many events and has built up links with various organisations such as Devon Wildlife Trust, EDDC Countryside Service, AONB, Devon Birds, Natural England, Environment Agency and Devon Heritage Coast Team.

Find out from local bat expert Dr Fiona Matthews why the East devon landscape is such an important place for many different British bats, how they live, and how 'Looking out for Bats' is making a difference locally. Monday 27th September 2010 at 7.30 p.m., CeramTec (UK), Old Sidmouth Road, Colyton. Join us for a talk and walk to find out about bat swarming behaviour! Dr Fiona Mathews will introduce us to these wonderful nocturnal creatures before we go out to listen out for 'swarming' bats using bat detectors at a locally important site, restored with support from the East Devon AONB 'Looking out for bats' initiative.
