Parishscapes
Bringing the Past to Life
(by Phil Planel)
What is Parishscapes?
Parishscapes is a community
project that aims to make all the tithe maps of the East Devon AONB
digitally available for public use as a means of increasing awareness
of these historical maps, and their connections to landscape past and
present.
- Great I’d love to see a tithe map of my area; how is the project going to work?
- First we will use an amazing camera to digitise the parish
tithe maps of the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB),
developing a picture of land use, land ownership and settlement in
1840, and make them available for public use.
- We will work with local groups and contacts to gather DVD
oral accounts on personal insights into landscape features across the
area.
- We will organise events and workshops with schools and
communities to help schools to develop study material and improve
understanding of landscape change and the relationship with wildlife,
both past and present.
- We will organise walks, talks, exhibitions and events across the AONB with interested groups and parties as a means of sharing and learning with others.
