Dawlish Warren 23rd September 2009
(by Ian Waite)
En
route to the hide we checked the bushes on the Warren for
migrants. Amongst several Chiffchaffs a female Redstart showed
alongside a Wheatear. Some of the group glimpsed a Sedge
Warbler. We all had good views of a Green Woodpecker.Best views of waders were on the beach with a mix of Bar-tailed Godwits, Whimbrel, Grey Plover, Dunlin and a Little Stint. More small waders, Ringed Plover, Dunlin and Sanderling were seen from the hide with Black-tailed Godwits, Curlew and Oystercatchers. Recently arrived Wigeon and later, at Star Cross, Brent Geese were noted.
Twenty plus Greenshanks were on view at the later location with Turnstones and more Godwits. Sandwich Terns were fishing at this point.
Four of the group who moved on to Powderham were rewarded with views of Osprey overhead carrying the fish to distant woodland.
